Have you ever tried to put something together without reading the instructions first and ended up in a mess? That’s not a wise thing to do, because it makes sense that the manufacturer would know best. This world is in a terrible mess because it has ignored the Manufacturer’s Instruction Book. The Instruction Book—the Bible is the best-selling Book of all time. Have you ever opened its pages? Do you know its message?
Here’s a quick synopsis. In the Old Testament, God promised to destroy death. The New Testament tells us how He did it. Did you know that? Here’s something else you may not know. Matthew chapter 5-7 contains what is commonly called “The Sermon on the Mount.” It is the greatest sermon ever preached, by the greatest preacher who ever lived (Jesus Christ), contained in the greatest Book ever written. Put that one sermon into practice and you will have the ability to live stress free in troubled times. You have God’s Word on it. However, understanding the gospel is perhaps the greatest of all stress-relievers. Let me share it with you.
The Bible tells us, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Death is wages paid to you by God. Proof that we have sinned against Him, will be our death. It’s like a judge saying to a heinous criminal who has committed multiple murders, “We’re giving you the death sentence. It’s what we are paying you. It’s what you’ve earned.” Sin is so serious to God, He has given all of us capital punishment— “The wages of sin is death.” However, the verse doesn’t end there. It then says, “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
This is how to obtain the gift of eternal life: Ask yourself if you are going to make it to Heaven—are you a good person? Have you broken the Ten Commandments? Have you lied, stolen, used God’s name in vain (including OMG), or lusted (which Jesus said is adultery of the heart, Mt. 5:28)? If so, God sees you as a liar, a thief, a blasphemer, and an adulterer at heart—you’ve earned your wages. If you die in your sins, you will end up in a terrible place called Hell. But here’s the good news of the gospel. Though we broke God’s Law, Jesus paid the fine by dying on the cross: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16). Then Jesus rose from the dead and defeated death. The Scriptures say that it was not possible that death could hold Him (see Acts 2:24).
Please, today, repent and trust Jesus, and God will forgive you and grant you the gift of eternal life (Eph. 2:8,9). Then, to show your gratitude to God, read the Bible daily and obey it, join a Christian church, and be baptized. For further help visit NeedGod.com and LivingWaters.com
